This study examined factors inuencing gender-based
violence (GBV) prevalence among men and women in Bagudo LGA, Kebbi State, Nigeria. GBV, a pervasive human rights violation, encompasses physical, sexual,
mental, and economic harm stemming from socially ascribed gender power imbalances. A descriptive survey approach was employed. Random sampling technique was used to select 500 men and women from the total
population in Bagudo LGA. Instrument used for this study was questionnaires. Data collection spanned three weeks. Analysis utilized SPSS 22.0, employing
descriptive statistics. The demographic characteristics
of this study showed that majority of the respondents are female (70%), between the ages of 26-35 (51%), with highest educational qualification as primary school
education (39%) and Full Housewives (42%). Majority
of the respondents are spouses living with their children (46%), Married (71%) with monthly income Less than 30,000 Naira (50%). The prevalence of GBV is low (45.2%) and the predictors of gender-based violence (GBV) among men and women in Kebbi State include age group (P=0.003), tribe (P=0.000), occupation (P=0.03), living arrangements (P=0.000), marital status (P=0.000), type of marriage (P=0.008), monthly income (P=0.008), alcohol consumption (P=0.11),
reporting rate (P=0.12), and knowledge levels (P=0.35). This study showed that the common type of GBV among men and women in Kebbi State identified is Emotional Violence (42.6%) and the predictors of gender-based
violence (GBV) among men and women in Kebbi State include age group (P=0.003), tribe (P=0.000),
occupation (P=0.03), living arrangements (P=0.000), marital status (P=0.000), type of marriage (P=0.008), monthly income (P=0.008), alcohol consumption (P=0.11), reporting rate (P=0.12), and knowledge levels (P=0.35) and lastly, age group (P=0.003), poverty (P=0.008), occupation (P=0.03), Knowledge deficit (P=0.000), Low educational status (P=0.000) and alcohol consumption (P=0.011) are factors influencing gender-based violence (GBV) in Kebbi State. In Conclusion, the study underscores the need for public awareness campaigns involving stakeholders to educate on GBV’s detrimental impacts, encourage reporting, provide comprehensive survivor care, and ensure appropriate perpetrator punishment to reduce GBV prevalence
